My name is Cate Brizzell, and I’m the author of “Real People Don’t Diet“.

It’s the story of how my husband and I decided to lose our extra weight, once and for all, in June of 2006. By January of 2007, we’d lost nearly 60 pounds and dropped a couple sizes each.

By June of 2007, we’d lost around 70 pounds, over 8 inches of waistline, and were both at our natural weight.

What was our secret?

We stopped dieting.

Dieting hadn’t worked, so buying the latest book or trying the latest fad wasn’t going to help.

We didn’t have time to exercise extensively, so we had to simply do our best to be active and focus on our eating habits instead.

We developed a simple strategy based on math that would allow us to lose weight and keep it off, without dieting. Our strategy had to work for “real life”: three kids, work schedules, dance class, Little League, vacations, eating out, and a tight budget.

We considered the fact that we would have to “trick” our brains, and our impulses, in order to succeed. Self-discipline is necessary in life but let’s face it–if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. So are there ways you can actually talk yourself into doing the right thing? You bet. We figured it out, and we apply those strategies every day of our lives.

As we used our strategy and saw results, friends and relatives began asking us to share our secret. I decided to write “Real People Don’t Diet” around Christmas of 2006 and spent all of New Year’s Day 2007 doing so.
