Going on Vacation–Follow Along!

Hard to believe two months have passed since my last trip.

It’s vacation time and we’re heading to the shore! It’s Myrtle Beach, SC for nine days. Can’t wait!

Follow along as I blog my meals. I hope it proves that you can enjoy vacation, have a few treats, and go home just as slim–if not slimmer–than you were when you left.

First day of the seminar!

BREAKFAST

LUNCH
Sweet Tomatoes (what an AWESOME place!  Someone, please put a restaurant in upstate NY!)
–full salad with romaine, veggies and sesame seeds
–squash-based vegetable soup
–unsweetened iced tea
–very small helpings of a ginger linguine and pasta salad, disliked both, didn’t eat them

DINNER
Outback Restaurant
–8 oz. steak special
–mashed potatoes (only ate about 3/4)
–steamed veggies (broccoli, carrots, zucchini)
–one small piece of dark bread
–water

Still traveling…today it was a flight to Las Vegas, then Salt Lake City.  It’s only 9:49 p.m. here but my body thinks it’s 11:49 p.m.

none (not good)

one slice of mushroom pizza
water

SNACK

KFC
–3 pieces of fried chicken (two breasts and a wing)

Not a super day.  Tomorrow it’s all about salad.  Salad and fruit.

Today was the day to play tourist.  We went to a very nice mall in downtown Norfolk, then toured the Nautica museum and USS Wisconsin.

At Chili’s chain restaurant

–Southwestern Cobb salad (greens, chicken, corn, tomatoes, egg, onion, olives,avocado/ranch dressing)

Breakfast was so crazy yesterday we didn’t even attempt the hot items today.  Besides, we had to get out the door to church.

Then it was lunch and a beeline for the beach–HEAVENLY!

We finished the day with a late cookout.

Today it definitely got HOTTER here.

We enjoyed a super-nice afternoon at the YMCA pool in Great Bridge.  It’s really amazing–a kids’ pool area, slides, lap pool and tons of chaise lounges.  I didn’t even get sunburned, thanks to Neutrogena Sensitive Skin (I’m allergic to regular sunscreen).

BREAKFAST

Wendy’s drive-thru:

–junior cheeseburger deluxe, no mayo
–caesar salad

Romano’s Macaroni Grill:
–Penne Vodka Rustica (boneless chicken with whole wheat penne in a spicy vodka tomato sauce), only ate about 1/2
–rosemary bread dipped in oil
–house salad
–house chianti
–seltzer with lime
–one piece of bruschetta

COFFEE/DESSERT
Cheesecake Factory peanut butter fudge something-or-other flavor (only ate half)

DINNER
Mongolian Bar-B-Q, a unique dining experience where you gather up all your ingredients into a bowl, add a dozen or so different sauces/juices, and watch while it’s barbecued on a really big, smooth surface. Delish!

–beef

water (it was SPICY)

Well…yesterday was an interesting day! Does this sound like your life:

–up early to work
–pack 5 people for one-week trip in 2 hours
–discover dryer is broken with one wet load and one damp load of laundry needed for trip
–leave for trip 1.5 hours late
–realize 7 minutes into trip that you left your flip-flops on driveway, having taken them off to climb into backseat and stuff one more bag under kids’ seats
–discover New Jersey traffic is just as hellish as it was last year
–enjoy the ambiance of a convenience store bathroom somewhere in Maryland at 12:00 a.m., sans toilet paper
–arrive at destination at 2:00 a.m. and try to bring luggage cart across parking lot and into hotel as quietly as possible with 3 kids in tow

It does? Great! I thought I was the only one!

Now we’re all rested, and we just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast here at the Springhill Suites. I just LOVE Marriott! (You’ll find out what I ate in tomorrow’s post.)
